Bike riders needed for Hilton Head festival

info@islandpacket.comSeptember 5, 2013

A group organizing a week-long festival to celebrate the 350th anniversary of Hilton Head Island's sighting and 30th year as a town seeks bicyclists to participate in a community bike ride to kick off the celebration.

Selected bike club volunteers will be joined by other Hilton Head cyclists at 10 a.m. Sept. 30 at Crossings Park and will carry banners in groups around all of the island's public path, reconvening at Crossings Park. They will then meet with other community volunteers on bikes at 12:30 p.m. and leave at 1 p.m. for a bike ride to Town Hall, where banners will then be presented to Mayor Drew Laughlin, according to the group's website.

The ride is free and open to the public and riders of all ages and abilities. Riders are encouraged to wear bright colors and bring helmets.
