Lowcountry Legal Volunteers thanks Bargain Box

letters@islandpacket.comSeptember 2, 2013

On behalf of our clients and their families, volunteers, staff and board of trustees of Lowcountry Legal Volunteers, I would like to express our sincere gratitude to The Bargain Box for its generous 2013 grant of $11,000.

These funds allow us to hire a bilingual paralegal so we can provide critical legal services to low-income families in our area who speak Spanish or for whom English is a second language. Since mid-2011, the Bargain Box has been the sole funder of this vital position. Having a bilingual paralegal ensures that our non-English speaking clients fully understand all written and oral communications and every aspect of their case. Having a bilingual paralegal also facilitates our duty of client confidentiality.

Lowcountry Legal Volunteers is the only organization in the region providing volunteer-based legal services that promote the well-being of our area's neediest individuals and families. We receive no governmental funding and depend solely on individual and corporate donations and grant funding from local organizations, such as The Bargain Box.

Our clients and their families, volunteers, staff and board are so very appreciative to The Bargain Box, its hardworking staff, board and grants committee and to all of the customers of its thrift store. Those purchases really add up; they enable The Bargain Box to assist local nonprofits; and this grant helps Lowcountry Legal Volunteers more fully serve families and our community. For that, we are truly thankful.
