Better to support district than to criticize leaders

info@islandpacket.comSeptember 1, 2013

The rally in Jasper County against the schools superintendent was shameful. What kind of an example are the responsible people setting? This was a most negative way to begin a school year.

I have worked very closely with superintendent Vashti Washington and her administrators over the past two years and have much respect and praise for their work and their interest in the children.

How many of these people who were involved in the rally have worked in the schools? I work with students there several days a week, and the lack of local residents helping children is quite obvious. Why not have a rally in support of the administration and students?

Bring in local folks to help struggling students as is done in other school districts. This kind of example would speak louder than any words in letting administrators and students know how you value their education. Isn't being supportive our job?
