A Ridgeland man was shot and killed early Friday in a front yard on Captain Bill Road.

Jermain D. Alston, 36, was found dead just down the street from his home, according to Chief Deputy Roy Hughes of the Jasper County Sheriff's Office.

The Sheriff's Office received at call at about 12:30 a.m. about a shooting.

Relatives lived at the home where he was shot, but the Sheriff's Office does not believe a family member was the culprit.

No suspects have been identified, and the investigation continues, Hughes said.
