VIDEO: Dr. Laughlin retires from Hilton Head Hospital

August 28, 2013

Dr. Robert Laughlin is retiring from Hilton Head Hospital after 35 years of practice.

Laughlin started a plastic- and reconstructive-surgery practice in 1978. Since then, he's reattached hands -- once he did this twice in two days -- filled in as a general surgeon, handled all sorts of trauma patients and seen a lot of changes in the industry.

Laughlin's practice has been bought by Dr. David Reid, but Laughlin has no plans to move. He will continue as medical coordinator for the Gift of Life program, which brings disfigured children from around the globe to the island for free, life-changing surgery that is unavailable at home.

In this video, Laughlin speaks at his retirement party, which was held on Wednesday.
