PALS AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM: What: Registration for Beaufort County Parks and Leisure Services After-School Program; Where: Bluffton center, Burton Wells, Broomfield, Port Royal, Scott Center and Lind Brown; Notes: Registrations will be accepted until each center is full. CYCLING

PRINCE WILLIAM CYCLE TOUR: What: 62-mile or 35-mile bicycle ride through the country roads of Prince William Parish; Where: Ride begins and ends at Buckfield Plantation in Yemassee; When: 8:30 a.m., Oct. 26; Cost: $35 per rider through Oct. 25, $45 day of; Notes: This is not a race. The annual ride is sponsored by the Yemassee Revitalization Corporation, a non-profit organization whose mission is to restore and beautify downtown Yemassee. An after-ride lunch will be served on the grounds of the plantation. All riders must be at least 16 years of age. Early registration for the event guarantees each rider a T-shirt, cue sheet, snacks, lunch and beverages. FISHING

BEAUFORT SPORTFISHING AND DIVING CLUB MEETING: When: Sept. 12; Where: Beaufort Yacht and Sailing Club, Lady's Island; Time: Social at 6:30 p.m., meeting at 7 p.m.; Notes: Al Stokes of the Waddell Mariculture Center will be the guest speaker. The center has worked with a variety of species, including striped bass, white bass and their hybrids, sturgeon, cobia, whiting, red drum, black drum, flounder, sea trout, tilapia, and various species of marine shrimp. He will also discuss future opportunities and how local fisherman can be supportive of their research. No reservations are needed. Guests are welcome. Information: Call Capt. BEFORE-SCHOOL AND AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMS: When: Monday through Friday (regularly scheduled public school days); Where: Hilton Head Island Recreation Center; Notes: Programs combine play with academics. Children in the afterschool program receive homework assistance. Programs focus on youth development, academic success, friendship and character-building. Before-school program children will be walked over to school. There is a registration fee of $30 per child or $50 per family each year. RUN FOR RET 5K: Where: Hilton Head Preparatory School, Sea Pines; When: 8 a.m., Aug. 31; Notes: Runners will race through the Sea Pines Forest Preserve on hard-packed dirt trails, under live oak trees, around lakes and over wetlands.
