River festival set for this weekend

The eighth annual Lands End Woodland River Festival will be this weekend at Riverside Plantation on St. Helena Island.

The event starts Friday with a fish fry from 5 to 11 p.m. The River Festival is noon to 7 p.m. Saturday with African dancers, Latin dancers, Gullah storytelling, a puppet show, gospel choirs, arts and crafts, kids' games, tours of historic Fort Fremont, and "a taste of Gullah" by local vendors.

The parents of "American Idol" winner and St. Helena native Candice Glover will be honored as the 2013 River Festival Family of the Year.

Admission is $3 for adults; children younger than 17 are free.
