Literacy Volunteers of the Lowcountry thanks All Saints Episcopal Church for support

letters@islandpacket.comAugust 26, 2013

All of us at Literacy Volunteers of the Lowcountry -- students, tutors, volunteers, board and staff -- would like to thank All Saints Episcopal Church for its support of our adult literacy program.

Proceeds from its very successful annual garden tour were donated to a number of area nonprofits. Literacy Volunteers of the Lowcountry is honored to have been selected as one of the lucky recipients.

The funding we received from All Saints will support 100 adult literacy students on Hilton Head Island. These adult learners will benefit from access to high-interest, real-life texts and learning materials, along with companion teaching materials for our volunteer tutors. In the most recent year, Literacy Volunteers saw enrollment increases of almost 30 percent, so our needs continue to increase. In order for us to equip adults with the reading, writing, speaking and math skills they need to be successful, we rely on the generosity of organizations like All Saints Episcopal Church and truly appreciate their interest in and support of our mission.
