String of vehicle break-ins reported on Cat Island

Several vehicle break-ins and thefts occurred overnight Saturday on Cat Island.

Among the items stolen were cash, jewelry and sunglasses. There was no sign of forced entry or damage to any of the vehicles, according to a news release from the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office. It is believed all were left unlocked.

One victim reported that a golf cart was stolen. However, the golf cart was found abandoned off Island Causeway a short time later, according to the release.

There is no information on possible suspects. Residents are encouraged to secure their vehicles and property by keeping windows up and doors locked and not leaving behind keys or valuables in unattended vehicles.

Any suspicious activity or people should be reported to the Beaufort County Dispatch Center, 843-524-2777.
