Events leading up to vacationer's drowning unclear

Investigators are still working to determine what led up to a woman vacationing on Hilton Head Island drowning Saturday near Singleton Beach Road, according to a Beaufort County deputy coroner.

Beaufort County Deputy Coroner David Ott said it's still not known what happened before 67-year-old Maddeline Raad's body was found at beach marker 95 on Saturday.

Ott said results of an autopsy are still pending.

Raad, a native of Ecuador, was on vacation at Marriott's SurfWatch with her son, his wife and three grandchildren when she drowned, Ott said. An earlier report that Raad was on vacation with her husband and two sons was incorrect.

Ott said Raad's husband was in Argentina at the time of her drowning.
