Hilton Head Island Beach and Tennis sent two teams -- 14-and-under and 18-and-under -- this past weekend to represent South Carolina in Auburn, Ala., at the USTA Junior Team Tennis sectional tournament. The two teams advanced to sectionals by winning the Public Tennis Inc. Beaufort County Local league, and then winning the Junior Team Tennis tournament held in Florence in July.

Despite having the highest winning percentage in its division, the 14U team narrowly missed a spot in the sectional finals, edged by Mississippi by a total of three games won. Members of the 14U team were: Henry Clare Cram, Robert Gavin, Meredith Inglis, Alex Ittenbach, Holly Kerr, Stratton Pollitzer and Sarah Wood. The team was coached by Edward Wood and Katie Hoch.

The 18-and-under team finished just above Tennessee in its division to finish fourth. Katie Rankin paced the Beach and Tennis team with two wins. Other members of the 18U team were: Maddy Bauer, Kate Bennett, Cameron Clark, Stevie De Vincentis, Matthew Feldman, Brad Malool, Ian Schenkel and Phillip Tong. Joey Nylund coached the team.
