A mobile home in the Coosaw Island area of Lady's Island was destroyed by a fire Monday morning, a Lady's Island-St. Helena Fire District spokesman said.

Firefighters arrived at the double-wide mobile home on Gannet Point Road just after 8 a.m. to find heavy flames and smoke coming from the trailer, spokesman Lee Levesque said.

It took firefighters about 20 minutes to get the fire under control, and another 10 to put it out. Firefighters used over two miles of hose in extinguishing the fire, Levesque said.

Levesque said the remote location of the home gave it a "huge head start."

The mobile home was unoccupied, Levesque said, but a family was upfitting it to move into.

The fire's cause is still undetermined. No injuries were caused by the fire.

Emergency crews and Beaufort County Sheriff's Office deputies also responded to the fire.
