One person was killed and another injured in an early morning crash Sunday in Jasper County, according to a report from the S.C. Highway Patrol.

The driver of a 2006 Saturn was killed and her passenger injured after they were ejected from the car along U.S. 321 about 1 a.m., the report said.

Jasper County Coroner Martin Sauls identified the driver as 20-year-old Nancy Chavez of Hardeeville.

Chavez apparently lost control of the vehicle, causing it to run down an embankment, hit a utility pole and roll over, the report said.

Chavez, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected through the car's sun roof as it rolled. She was pronounced dead at the scene, the report said.

The passenger, who has not been identified, was taken to Savannah Memorial Hospital, according to the report.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
