Fire destroyed a mobile home in Burton Friday afternoon, according to a Burton Fire District official.

No injuries were reported, spokesman Daniel Byrne said.

Firefighters were called to a brush fire in the Grays Hill area at about 12:41 p.m. Byrne said firefighters were told en route that a mobile home on Moses Road was on fire, and that two cars were in the driveway.

Byrne said it does not appear there was a brush fire; the flames were contained to the 60 Moses Rd. home.

No one was in the home at the time of the blaze, Byrne said.

Marion Lamant Griffin, 39, owns the home, but only lives there part-time, said Lt. Alfredo Givens of the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.

Griffin's address is listed at 18 Moses Rd. Givens said Griffin used the destroyed home for "entertainment purposes."

Five engine companies from Burton and the city of Beaufort Fire Department responded. Beaufort County EMS and two Beaufort County Sheriff's Office deputies also responded.

Firefighters had the flames under control in several minutes, but it took about 45 minutes to fully extinguish them, Byrne said.

"The heat was a very significant factor in the time it took to put out the fire," Byrne said. "The humidity made it much more difficult."

The mobile home is a complete loss, Byrne said, and one of the vehicles had melted in some spots. No damage estimates were available Friday.

District crews were still at the scene at about 3:30 p.m., cleaning debris and trying to determine the cause of the fire, Byrne said. The Beaufort County Fire Scene Investigation Team is investigating.
