A workshop is scheduled for Aug. 24 in Beaufort County on the rights, responsibilities and risks of owning heirs' property and how to protect it.

The free, public workshop will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Sheldon New Church of Christ at 147 Cuthbert Farm Road in Seabrook. A light lunch will be provided.

The event is sponsored by the Center for Heirs' Property Preservation and the S.C. Natural Resources Conservation Service.

Experts will conduct an in-depth discussion on heirs' property land-ownership issues, on best sustainable farming and forestry practices, on improving produce markets, on creating conservation easements, on farm financing, and maximizing agricultural and forestry output, according to a center news release.
