Brighten dismal forecast with a better outlook

info@islandpacket.comAugust 2, 2013

I woke up Tuesday with the sun shining, a pleasant breeze in the air and what looked to be a very enjoyable day ahead. I opened my newspaper, and all my enjoyment changed as I read a letter to the editor forecasting doom and gloom for everyone.

According to the writer, we have the worst administration in the history of American politics, millions of people out of work, homes being foreclosed on and expensive food and gasoline.

Not content with this dismal economic evaluation, he goes on to say that the nation's morals are in serious decline, and we are being invaded by foreign criminals.

I have to say these comments were at best a touch dismal, and certainly not the way to start any day, especially when you have the privilege of residing in our delightful location.

I am truly sorry for anyone who only sees the negative side of life. Years ago, I learned that a smile is worth a thousand complaints. I would say to this man that despite what he may say or think, our quality of life throughout the U.S. is second to none.

Sure, we've had economic problems, but in today's world, this is almost universal. Just look at the struggles in Europe and in the wonder nation of yesterday, Japan.

But as in the past, America will not only survive, it also will continue to prosper. So my friend, just look out of your window every day and see how lucky you are.
