Report on fatal accident still weeks away

Bluffton police say it likely will be several weeks until they know the cause of a fatal car accident last month on Old Palmetto Bluff Road.

Capt. Angela Tanner said her office has been told a report by state accident investigators has not been completed.

"Therefore, we have not been able to rule out anything at this point," she said, noting that the report could take two months.

Makail Smith, 21, of Hardeeville died at the scene after the car he was riding in left the roadway and flipped after midnight July 5. The driver, 19-year-old Mason Deloach of Hardeeville, was taken to a Savannah hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
