Area's private schools begin football practice; Public schools start Friday

The 2013 high school football season begins with practices this week.

The wait is over. High school football is back.

The area's four SCISAA high schools hit the field for their first practices Thursday, while Beaufort County's five public high schools, along with Ridgeland-Hardeeville, hold their first workouts Friday.

The four private schools will start their workouts at 8 a.m., while Beaufort Academy will return to the field for a second workout at 6 p.m.

Hilton Head Christian will hold its first summer practice under new head coach Ryan Mitch, while Brock Vaigneur will hold his first practice at BA. Mitch replaces Tommy Lewis, who departed for Victory Christian in Florida, while Vaigneur replaces Wheatley Alford, who resigned from Beaufort Academy for health reasons.

Thursday

Beaufort Academy: 8 a.m. & 6 p.m.

Hilton Head Christian Academy: 8 a.m.

Hilton Head Prep: 8 a.m.

Thomas Heyward Academy: 8 a.m.

Friday

Battery Creek: 6 p.m.

Beaufort High: 9 a.m. & 5 p.m.

Bluffton: 8 a.m.

Hilton Head Island: 7 a.m. & 10:30 a.m.

Ridgeland-Hardeeville: 7 a.m.

Whale Branch: 8 a.m.
