Coverage shortchanges more meaningful events

On Sunday, I turned on CNN news, eagerly awaiting to view the coverage of people of all ages and beliefs gathering on Copacabana Beach in Brazil to celebrate "Youth Day" and to hear a heartfelt message from Pope Francis, a very caring and holy man.

How disappointing when CNN elected to show only three minutes of what appeared to be a spectacular display of love and prayer for the 3 million in attendance.

The media seem to find not newsworthy such a beautiful and memorable event, but focus instead on the guy running for mayor in New York City who gets enjoyment out of embarrassing his wife, family and friends or a celebrity funeral or a controversial murder trial.

Here was an opportunity for CNN to show the world that faith and hope still live and that the youth of today want desperately to learn more about how they can lead a better life and be happy.
