Bluffton Subway hit by armed robber, Sheriff's Office says

July 29, 2013

A sandwich shop in greater Bluffton was robbed late Friday, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff's Office news release. No one was injured, but the suspect remains at large.

Deputies were called to Subway at 1460 Fording Island Road just before 10 p.m. after an armed robbery moments earlier. Two employees and one customer reported that the store had been robbed by an unknown black man.

The suspect ran in through the front door, jumped over the counter and ordered everyone to get down, the witnesses told authorities. The culprit never actually brandished a weapon, however, he kept his hand concealed under his shirt; giving the appearance that he had a gun. After removing an undisclosed amount of money from a cash drawer, the suspect fled through the rear of the store, leaving all unharmed, according to the release.

The suspect was described as a light-skinned black man between 18 and 20 years old, about 5-foot-10, 180 pounds. He wore green shorts, a black shirt and a black ski mask.

Anyone with information about the crime should call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC (274-6372) or text the word TIPSC with a message to CRIMES (274637).
