Two employees of a St. Helena Island dollar store were robbed at gunpoint Saturday night as they left the store.

The employees, a man and a woman, were closing the Family Dollar on Sea Island Parkway when they were robbed by a unknown, masked black male at about 9:30 p.m., they told Beaufort County Sheriff's Office deputies.

A man wearing a black stocking mask over his face demanded the woman hand over her purse, put a gun to her head and ordered her to the ground, according to a news release.

He then put the gun in the man's face and demanded his belongings.

Both were ordered to walk into the nearby woods and lie down while the man fled the scene.

Neither were injured. Once the masked man was gone, the employees called 911.

Anyone with information is asked to call either Cpl. L. Resto at 843-255-3510 or Crimestoppers, 1-888-274-6372.
