Issues no longer evaluated by morality

info@islandpacket.comJuly 28, 2013

As always, I am intrigued by the many letters sent to the editor. In almost every letter, there are firmly held convictions as to what is true and good.

It should be apparent to all that we are living in days of declining moral values; there is much evidence of this fact in our newspapers and magazines and the daily news reports we watch every evening.

In the 19th century, many people who disagreed with one another on moral issues often asked the question, "What sayeth the Scriptures?" Put another way, "What does God say about the issue?"

We don't ask this question very much anymore, if at all. Moral issues are no longer moral issues. Individual rights are paramount. Love, tolerance and equality are the new standards now. But "what sayeth the Scriptures?"

The Bible: Exodus 20:13.

The Bible: Genesis 19:24.

The Bible: Matthew 10:15.
