Bill Harkins wins Beach Bum Triathlon in record time

Bill Harkins, 43, of Indianapolis crossed the finish line in a record time of 43 minutes, 20 seconds to win the second Beach Bum Triathlon of the summer on Saturday morning at Coligny beach.

More than 160 athletes from more than 15 states competed in the race, which featured a 500-meter swim, a 6-mile beach bike and a 3-mile beach run.

Harkins beat Bluffton's Matt Tranquilli by a minute and three seconds.

Bluffton's Amy Koepp, 39, was the top female finisher in 49:02.

Tranquilli won the Men's 39-under division, while Bluffton's Gina Gibson, 43, won the Women's 40-over division.
