Dixie Ponytails hit Bluffton for 2013 World Series

sports@islandpacket.comJuly 27, 2013

Twelve of the top 12-under Dixie Ponytails softball teams invaded Beaufort County on Friday to compete in the 2013 Dixie Ponytails World Series.

Players, coaches and tournament officials gathered Friday night at the Buckwalter Recreation Center for a banquet before they were joined by family members for the Opening Ceremonies, where the players took part in minute-to-win-it games.

It was all fun Friday night, but the business starts Saturday when play opens at 2 p.m. at Bluffton's Oscar J. Frazier Park with Hanahan (S.C) vs. Old Hickory (Tenn.) on Field 3 and Slocomb (Ala.) vs. Wewahitchka (Fla.) on Field 1.

The host team, the Beaufort Allstars, play their first game at 5 p.m. on Field 1 against Rockingham West (N.C.).

After more than 20 total games, a World Series champion will be determined by the end of the evening on Wednesday.
