Beaufort's C.J. Cummings to lift in National Championships on Saturday in Ohio

Beaufort's C.J. Cummings will compete in the USA Weightlifting National Championships starting Saturday in West Chester, Ohio.

The 13-year-old will lift at 12:30 p.m. A live broadcast can be found at www.teamusa.org/usaweightlifting/LIVE.

Cummings and his brother, Omar, were recently selected to compete in the Pan Am Games, Aug. 15-17 in Shreveport, La.

C.J. was named the top lifter younger than 13 years old at the USA Weightlifting Youth Championships in St. Joseph, Mo., in June. He lifted 100 kilograms on the snatch, and his clean and jerk was 125 kilograms. His 225kg total was an American youth record for his weight class.

Omar lifted 131 kilograms in the clean and jerk, an American record for his age and weight. He finished second overall among boys ages 14-15.
