One man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder after shots were fired Friday night during an attempted robbery at a St. Helena Island home.

Another suspect remains on the loose, according to a news release from the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies responded to reports of shots fired near Dulamo Road just before 10 p.m. They found 35-year-old Charles Bryan standing outside a nearby Reunion Road home, armed with a shotgun and handgun. Bryan said he had come to the aid of his cousin Brian Bryan, who was robbed by two unknown black men.

Brian Bryan, 27, said the two men entered through an unlocked side door, and one began shooting at him. Brian Bryan said he then shot back.

One man was arrested after he was treated at Beaufort Memorial Hospital for a gunshot wound. A-Tray Tyler Holmes, 18, said he was shot during the thwarted attempt to rob Brian Byran. Holmes was treated for a non-life threatening injury and arrested and charged with one count of armed robbery upon his release on Saturday.

On Monday, he was charged with attempted murder, discharge of a firearm within a dwelling and possession of a firearm while committing a violent crime.

He now is at the Beaufort County Detention Center on a $50,000 bond.

Investigators are working to identify the second suspect, and additional charges and arrests are pending.
