A Beaufort native who designs chassis and body components for the most winning organization in NASCAR, despite being born without arms, was profiled in a recent ESPN video.
Richie Parker, who grew up in Beaufort, has worked for Hendrick Motorsports for eight years. He does all his design work on a computer, with the keyboard and mouse placed under his desk so he can use his feet to type and click.
The nearly eight-minute long video, narrated by ESPN reporter Tom Rinaldi, shows Parker doing several things people said he could never do, such as riding a bike or driving his dream car, a 1964 Chevy Impala SS.
"I don't listen too much to people when they tell me I can't do something," Parker says at the beginning of the video.
