Theatrical arts alive and well in the Lowcountry

letters@islandpacket.comJuly 19, 2013

There are two theatrical gems being staged on Hilton Head Island.

The first is the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina production of "Chicago," which fully lives up to the very high standards for musicals at the arts center. Jessica Lea Patty absolutely rocks as Velma. She can dance, sing and act at a level we rarely get to see on any stage. The audience Saturday night gave a standing ovation, which I suspect was the standard reaction to this excellent production.

The other production is "Shrek the Musical" by the Main Street Youth Theatre. It is just plain fun and funny. There are lots of kids in this show who are great and stellar performances by some young adults. It helps to have seen the "Shrek" movie, but that's not completely necessary.

How lucky we are to live in a place where we have such easy access to quality live theater. Pick up your phone and make a reservation.
