Downtown irrigation excessive in Beaufort

info@islandpacket.comJuly 19, 2013

I travel on Beaufort's Bay Street almost every morning. I cannot recall a morning that I have not seen the irrigation running on the ornamental beds along the street, rain or shine. A large amount of the water goes into the street. You can see it every morning.

Ornamentals do not require daily watering, and I don't think asphalt requires any. Established plantings do not need frequent watering.

My household water use of around 100 gallons a day costs about $50 per month. Someone should program the irrigation clocks to some reasonable run times and save us some money.

It might be enough to get rid of the parking meters. Thank you.
