Capt. Kevin Osterstock of the Town of Hilton Head Fire & Rescue Division is the 2013 recipient of the Knights of Columbus Jack Cavagnaro Public Service Award.

The award from the Knights' Hilton Head Assembly 2280 recognizes a local firefighter who provides "heroic and extraordinary" services on the job and off duty, according to a news release.

Osterstock has served with the division for 20 years. He earned a Meritorious Cross in 2011 for his part in rescuing a woman from a burning home.

He coaches athletes on the Hilton Head Island High School football and lacrosse teams, as well as provides guidance and tutoring for them.
