Beaufort's Asher Wojciechowski making noise at Triple-A

mmccombs@islandpacket.comJuly 11, 2013

Beaufort High School product Asher Wojciechowski had the game of his professional baseball career this week at Triple-A for the Houston Astros.

The 24-year-old right-handed pitcher, drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays out of The Citadel in the first round in 2010, faced the minimum in a one-hit shutout for the Oklahoma Redhawks. The Redhawks downed Round Rock.

For the season, Wojciechowski is 5-4 with a 3.06 ERA in 13 starts. He has surrendered only 58 hits in 79 1/3 innings pitched and has a WHIP of 1.09. Should the Astros need a starting pitcher anytime soon, Wojciechowski is a legitimate candidate for a call-up.

Here's a story from the Oklahoman on the game, and here's more from SBNation's Astros minor-league roundup.
