The Bluffton Township Fire District reports that 25 new recruits have graduated from the S.C. Fire Academy.

The recruits spent eight weeks learning basic firefighter skills and becoming certified in various areas such as firefighting and hazardous-material operations.

They have each earned the rank of probationary firefighter, the release said. Seven of them now possess their emergency medical technician or paramedic certification and have received station assignments, according to a district news release. The remainder of the recruits will undergo an additional five weeks of EMT training.
