Former Blufftonian's spice rub helps raise money for prostate cancer research

    Makes: 4-6 servings



    3 eggs

    1/2 cup Bisquick

    1 stick sweet butter, melted

    1 1/2 cups milk

    Salt and pepper to taste

    1 cup grated parmesan cheese

    1/2 cup chopped smoked ham



    Heat oven to 350. Place everything but last two ingredients in blender. Blend well. Pour into greased 9-inch pie pan; top with cheese and ham. Stir a bit. Bake 45 minutes. Let cool before cutting.

Rama Gosine went to high school with our son Will. Rama's father is a sommelier and his stepmother is a pastry chef. Rama has been cooking and creating recipes ever since he was a small child.

Rama has created a "rub" for meats that he calls Rama Rub. The rub is a delicious blend of spices that the creative genius put together one day. The rub is made from certified organic spices in Tampa, Fla., near Rama's home.

Rama's friend Murray Baughman, who works at Scott's Meats, heard about Rama's Rub and asked if he could carry it here in Bluffton. Five percent of sales totals goes to UC Davis Prostate Cancer Research Center. The rub is dedicated to Jack Barry of Hilton Head Island and Rama's Uncle Roger, both of whom shared the same physician at UC Davis.

Now we can all enjoy this delicious mixture and also help fund a worthy cause. Good luck Rama and hello to your beautiful family.

  • The Coastal Discovery Museum on Hilton Head hosts "A Turtle Talk and Walk" from 7:30-9:30 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday through August. The evening involves a fun and educational presentation and a question and answer session. A senior staffer will give a guided walk on the beach so you can put you newfound knowledge to the test. You are also able to adopt a nest. There have been 165 nests adopted so far. When you adopt a nest you get pictures and updates on the islands turtles and nest information about number of eggs and the progress of your "adoptee." This wonderful project only costs $25 and for $50 you will receive a T-shirt also. What a great present for a child or anyone for that matter. Contact the museum for more information.

  • The annual Bluffton Children's Fourth of July Parade will take place from 10 to 11 a.m. July 4. You are all invited to decorate bikes, strollers, friendly dogs and yourselves and join the fun.

  • The parade forms in front of The Church of The Cross on Calhoun Street in Old Town. From there paradegoers will meander down three blocks to Lawrence Street. It is short and sweet. Water will be available.

  • There won't be a Farmers' Market on July 4. The venders are going to enjoy their well-earned holiday. Babs Utley who sells her produce here knows there really is no holiday when you have a garden. Babs taught high school for many years and is now enjoying her new career. Heirloom tomatoes are a real treat, and Babs has them. So make a beeline for her booth next market July 11.

  • Garden and Gun Magazine is putting out a call to any Southern artisan making products in the following categories: food, drink, style and design, outdoors and home. The magazine's editors and a panel of expert judges will review the final selections. There are many talented Bluffton residents, so enter the contest. Rama, this could mean you and Murray.
