Literacy Volunteers of the Lowcountry thanks Calhoun Station for generosity

letters@islandpacket.comJuly 1, 2013

The board, staff, tutors and students of Literacy Volunteers of the Lowcountry would like to thank Calhoun Station for its continued support of our mission to increase adult literacy in Beaufort County.

Thanks to Calhoun Station's generosity, we will be able to purchase texts and accompanying workbooks to help our students gain the reading, writing, speaking and math skills to improve their lives and the lives of their families.

These materials are especially important to us because an unprecedented enrollment increase has stretched our books and materials budget. The availability of appropriate, real life-focused materials for low-literacy adults makes learning interesting and applicable to our students' lives. The materials also help our almost 150 volunteers plan engaging lessons.

Thanks to Calhoun Station for its generous support.
