Second Helpings grateful to residents of Callawassie Island for golf fundraiser

letters@islandpacket.comJuly 1, 2013

Thanks to the residents of Callawassie Island for hosting a golf outing and luncheon to benefit Second Helpings. The event generated $2,200 in contributions and 350 pounds of nonperishable food. The $2,200 will keep one of our five trucks operational for a month and the food was delivered the next day.

Second Helpings' volunteers pick up rescued food at supermarkets for same-day delivery to agencies and church food banks. We're dependent on foundations, charitable organizations, United Way and the generosity of our friends and neighbors, primarily in Beaufort County.

Special thanks to Marian Parrotta, president of the Callawassie Women's Golf Association, and Pat Brennan, event chairman, for their initiative and hard work. Callawassie is a truly beautiful setting for such an event.

Again, on behalf of Second Helpings and the agencies we serve, thank you, Callawassie, for your generosity.

Jon Peluso, president
