A Hardeeville man was killed in an early morning head-on collision in Bluffton on Sunday, according to a report from the S.C. Highway Patrol.
The man was killed when his Kia Sportage SUV, traveling the wrong way in the eastbound lanes of Bluffton Parkway, crashed into a four-door Mazda sedan at about 12:30 a.m., according to the report.
Beaufort County Deputy Coroner Timothy Wolf identified the driver of the Kia as 65-year-old William Thompson. Thompson was wearing a seat belt when he crashed, according to the report.
The driver of the Mazda was not wearing a seat belt and was transported to Savannah Memorial Hospital. No information on the drivers identity was available Sunday.
So far, no information was available on why Thompson was driving the wrong way on the road, but an investigation into the crash is ongoing.
