A 28-year-old Beaufort man was charged with aggravated assault Monday after he threatened to kill a man who lived in the same apartment complex, a Beaufort Police Department spokeswoman said.

Lee Fennell Jr. allegedly confronted another resident of the Parkview Apartments on Duke Street after the man lodged a complaint against Fennell with the apartment complex's manager, Cpl. Hope Able said Tuesday.

Fennell was listed as a Yemassee resident in the Beaufort County Detention Center's jail log, but police said Fennell was a renter in the apartment complex.

Fennell threatened to kill the man during the confrontation and possessed a gun when he made the threat, Able said.

A search of Fennell's apartment after his arrest turned up the gun, Able said.

Fennell is being held at the Beaufort County Detention Center in lieu of $25,000 bond, according to the jail log.
