Owners of the Metropolitan Hotel on Hilton Head Island paid more than $4,300 in fines Thursday for four fire code violations issued in April and June.

The fines, $1,092 each, were issued Town of Hilton Head Island Fire & Rescue Division after several warnings were issued dating back to last year to clear a vacant annex building full of furniture, fix the alarms and add sprinklers.

Hotel officials on June 13 announced plans to partner with New California Hotels Corp. to renovate the hotel and convert the annex into a hostel and housing for foreign students on work visas.
