Beaufort City Council is set to vote on the final fiscal year 2014 budget at a 7 p.m. Tuesday meeting in Council Chambers, City Hall, 1911 Boundary St.
The $18 million budget is expected to be $180,000 leaner than when council unanimously granted the budget initial approval last week. Members said they did not want to levy a $25-per-vehicle fee and told staff to cut the $180,000 it would have brought in.
The fee would have gone toward roads and transportation expenses.
However, increases to property taxes and trash collection fees are still on the table.
Property taxes could go up by 4.32 percent, a move that would bring in an additional $142,000, city officials said.
Trash collection rates would increase to $16.20 a month, up $2.70. That would raise an additional $136,000 and bring the fees in line with actual costs of the contract with Waste Pro, city officials have said.
Before the vote, council will also meet for a work session at 5 p.m. in the Planning Conference Room. Agenda topics include revisions to park regulations, updates from chairmen of the Redevelopment and Metropolitan Planning commissions and an update on the boaters' infrastructure grant.
An executive session for legal advice will follow.
The 7 p.m. voting meeting will also include a final vote on rezoning 1001 Hamar St. and approval of requests for a Historic Beaufort Foundation cookout and Water Festival.
First votes are planned on changes to ordinances about sidewalks and off-street parking and amendments to the current budget.
