  • Robert S. Guernsey and Anthony M.V. Woodley recently enlisted in the U.S. Navy under the Delayed Entry Program at Navy Recruiting District in Raleigh.

  • The program allows recruits to enter the Navy and take as long as a year to complete commitments, such as high school. With recruiters as mentors, the program helps recruits transition from civilian to military life.

Guernsey and Woodley will report for basic training at the Navy's Recruit Training Center in Great Lakes, Ill.

Guernsey is the son of Francine Halvorson of Beaufort and Robert R. Guernsey of Pensacola, Fla.

Woodley is the son of Autumn Gonzalez of Beaufort and is a 2013 graduate of Beaufort High School.
