Do-nothing legislature lives up to its name

info@islandpacket.comJune 21, 2013

If I may paraphrase Mark Twain, suppose you were an idiot. And suppose you were a South Carolina legislator. But I repeat myself.

Yes, folks, that swell group of boys and girls up in Columbia just completed a session during which they accomplished just about nothing. They didn't do anything about the incredibly dangerous practice of texting while driving. They didn't try to fix the absurd sales tax laws, especially the one wherein a billionaire buying a Ferrari pays exactly the same sales tax as a struggling family buying a used sedan.

As for ethics reform, forget about it. Why heck, they couldn't even pass a comprehensive cybersecurity law, even though millions of us recently had personal information stolen due to governmental negligence. Now, these are not liberal or conservative issues. They are issues of good government, of passing desperately needed laws to improve the safety and quality of life of all citizens. The worst part is that voters keep returning these incompetents to office election after election. Yes, Pogo, we have met the enemy, and sadly, he is indeed us.
