The Women's S.C. Golf Association held the Round of 16 matches for its Match Play Championship and the quarterfinal matches for its Senior Match Play Championship Wednesday at Sanctuary Golf Club on Cat Island.

The Championship Division will play its quarterfinal and semifinals Thursday, while the Senior Division will play its semifinals. The finals for both divisions will be played Friday.

In the Championship Division, the top four seeds, including three-time defending champion Dawn Woodard of Greer, advanced on byes.

Bluffton's Jennifer Adams, seeded 11th, upset sixth-seeded Lee Anne Brown of Mt. Pleasant in 19 holes.

In Senior Flight 1, Beaufort's Susan Harden, seeded third, advanced by beating sixth-seeded Frances Matthews of St. Helena, 8 and 7.

In Senior Flight 2, fourth-seeded Bobbie Callaway of Bluffton advanced, while seventh-seeded Sookie Harris of Beaufort fell 3 and 2 to second-seeded Mary Secoy of Lexington.

Hilton Head Island's Chris Epperson became the first non-Canadian to claim the title of Vancouver Open Champion this past weekend.

After finishing the 54 regulation holes at 14 under, Epperson birdied the first playoff hole to beat British Columbia natives Nick Taylor and Riley Wheeldon and claim the $12,000 first-place prize at Fraserview Golf Course on Saturday.

The Vancouver Open is the flagship event of the Vancouver Golf Tour, a developmental tour in Canada, similar to the eGolf Tour. Epperson finished eighth earlier this month in his PGA Tour Canada debut at the Times Colonist Island Savings Open in Victoria, British Columbia.

Bluffton resident Sophie Guo shot a 17-over 79-82--161 to finish tied for second in the Girls 11-14 Division of the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour's JAGA Jacksonville City Junior Championship this past weekend at Deerwood Country Club in Jacksonville, Fla.
