CHEERLEADING

CHEERLEADING CAMP: Who: Ages 4-12; When: 8:30 am to 12:30 pm, June 24-28; Where: Island Rec Center, Hilton Head; Cost: $100; Notes: Camp led by Annette Lee. Campers will learn proper hand and body movements and jumping techniques, as well as cheers, sideline chants, stunts, dance and tumbling. FULL-DAY JUNIOR GOLF CAMP: What: Introduction to the rules and etiquette of golf; Who: Ages 8 and up; Where: Old South Golf Links; When: 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Tuesdays, June 10-Aug. 16; Cost: $150 per camp; Note: Instruction on full swing, chipping, putting, bunkers and on-course play. BEAUFORT CITY MEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP: Where: Fripp Island Resort; When: July 27-28; tee times start at 8 a.m.; Cost: $150 per person; Registration Deadline: July 22; Format: 36-hole individual medal play; Notes: There is a senior flight for men 60 and older. Players will be flighted after first round. Open to all Beaufort County residents. Price includes both rounds, range balls, cart fees, prizes and lunch both days. LOWCOUNTRY DISTRICT BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA GOLF CLASSIC: When: 10 a.m., Thursday, July 25; Where: Old Tabby Links at Spring Island; Format: Four-person Shamble; Cost: $225 per person, $900 per team, $150 hole sponsor, $1200 Eagle Scout sponsorship; Notes: Golfers will get a boxed lunch and on-course beverages, an awards reception, a gift bag and prizes. Open to amateurs who are Beaufort County residents or property owners. Professionals must be members of the HHI Chapter of the PGA. FIRECRACKER 5000: What: The 27th annual Hilton Head Firecracker 5000 Road Race and Family Fun Walk; When: 8 a.m., July 4; Where: Jarvis Creek Park, Hilton Head Island; Notes: Due to construction at Shelter Cove Park, this year's course will start behind Jarvis Creek Park on the Cross Island Parkway. The race will finish at the main entrance to Jarvis Creek Park. Post-race party will include a children's fun run, music from Chris Jones, fresh fruit, refreshments, exhibitors, door prizes, a craft beer garden, and more. A percentage of proceeds benefits several local charities including the Hilton Head Rotary Club, the Hilton Head High School cross country team and the Hilton Head Runners Club.
