A Lady's Island man is in jail after snatching a woman's purse in a church parking lot Sunday, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.

Quinton Timothy Blake, 19, was charged with purse snatching and is being held for prosecution at the Beaufort County Detention Center, according to the jail log.

An 18-year-old parishioner said she had walked from a church on Sea Island Parkway to a gas station to get a drink at about 10 a.m., according to a press release.

As she was walking back to the church, Blake allegedly approached her and demanded her purse.

He ripped it from her shoulder and ran off, according to the release.

A fellow parishioner unsuccessfully chased him to Geechie Road. Law enforcement set up a perimeter and the Sheriff's Office K9 unit was brought in to assist.

A K9 officer tracked Blake down in a wooded area off Youmans Drive and the victim's credit cards were found in Blake's pockets, according to the release. He said he threw the purse into the woods.

The purse and contents were recovered, and the victim said she was unharmed.
