Solutions offered to address problems

Several months ago, I wrote a letter about America's grim future. Here are some solutions:

  • Pass a balanced budget amendment. We all have to balance our budgets. The only exception would be if the country were attacked.

  • Pass a flat tax, with no deductions. Taxes should be progressive, but everybody must pay some tax.

  • Medicare should start at 68 and include means testing. A $500 surcharge would start at $60,000 and increase $500 for every $15,000 in additional income.

  • All homework papers must be signed by parents. Parents must meet with teachers every two months, and they will get report cards on signed homework.

  • No one can receive unemployment payments or food stamps if he or she is obese or doesn't have a high school diploma or GED. Both are under their control.

  • Limit terms for members of Congress and set one six-year term for president.

  • Please think about your grandchildren's future.
