Events and achievements at Hilton Head Island and Bluffton area schools.




  • Jack Qualey III of Hilton Head Island received the James G. Hollandsworth Mountaineering Award, the highest honor given in Asheville School's mountaineering program. He was also honored with the Outstanding Supporting Performance award for his work in the musical production of Cabaret. Qualey will enter the University of Vermont in the fall. A nationally acclaimed co-ed college preparatory boarding and day school, Asheville School in Asheville, N.C., enrolls 275 students from across the country and overseas.

  • Brantley Neville of Hilton Head Island won second place in the 2013 South Carolina Young Filmmakers Project. Created by the South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism and the South Carolina Film Commission, the first-ever film competition for high school students rewards young filmmakers short film about South Carolina State Parks. Provost Academy South Carolina is a tuition-free state-authorized public online high school.



  • Engard Real Estate Company/Shell Hall Community teacher of the year award went to soccer coach and English teacher Josh Fox. The scholarship award was presented to senior Elizabeth Ann Collins. Collins will be attending Franciscan University in Steubenville, Ohio.
