ACHIEVEMENTS

  • Beaufort resident Molly Murphy received a $1,500 scholarship for children of members of the U.S. Armed Services, including active-duty, retirees and guard/reserves, as well as children of deceased military personnel. Murphy plans to attend the University of South Carolina. Applicants were required to maintain a 3.0 grade point average, participate in school and community activities, demonstrate leadership qualities and write an essay about how First Ladies have impacted national social issues.

  • The Rotary Club of Beaufort awarded the following scholarships May 29 to the following students for their academic excellence:

  • Not Only You will host its first annual youth self-empowerment workshop from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 29 at Battery Creek High School. The theme of the workshop is "Breaking the Silence." Cost is $10. Details: Jessica Powell, j.mpowell@yahoo.com.

  • Above & Beyond Basketball Camp will be held for ages 6 to 14 from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. July 10 to July 12 at the school. Cost is $40. The camp will include extensive training for beginner and advanced basketball players. All drills will be age appropriate.   • Summer dates for Camp Make & Take have been set for 9 to 11 a.m. July 8-12 and July 22-26. The camp, focused on 3-D printer technology, is offered free to northern Beaufort County teens. Camp Eagle at Beaufort Academy is also offering a variety of summer camps for ages 3 to 18 throughout June and July, ranging from Circus Camp, to different sports camps, to art camps, to SAT Prep.   • E.C. MONTESSORI SCHOOL

  • The second week of summer camp and day care at E.C. Montessori School will follow the topic "Twist and Shout" with creative music and dancing for students 3 to 6 years old. The Montessori toddler program for children 18 month to 3 years old continues throughout the summer. Details: 843-525-1141
