A Beaufort County sheriff's deputy injured in a car accident Tuesday in Bluffton was released from Coastal Carolina Hospital later that night, a Sheriff's Office spokeswoman confirmed Wednesday.

Patrolman 1st Class Mitchell Archbell is recovering at home, Sgt. Robin McIntosh said.

Archbell's Dodge Charger squad car was rear-ended at about 4:20 p.m. by a Chevrolet van driven by a Hardeeville man, said S.C. Highway Patrol Trooper Billy Wayne Elder. Archbell was making a left turn on S.C. 46.

The van's 39-year-old driver was charged with driving without a license, following too closely and having faulty equipment on a motor vehicle, Elder said.
