Historians to discuss 1863 'Campaign for Charleston' at USCB on July 18

Historians Stephen Wise and Lawrence Rowland will present a program about the 1863 Campaign for Charleston 7 p.m. July 18 at the University of South Carolina Beaufort's Center for the Arts, 801 Carteret St. During the campaign, Beaufort and Hilton Head Island served as the Federal Army and Navy's logistical and medical center.

The event is free and open to the public. It is part of the Beaufort Historical Society's series commemorating the sesquicentennial of the Civil War.
