A Beaufort County Sheriff's deputy was hospitalized Tuesday after his crusier was rear-ended in Bluffton, an S.C. Highway Patrol trooper said.

Deputy Mitchell Archbell's Dodge Charger cruiser was struck as he tried to make a left turn on S.C. Highway 46 at about 4:20 p.m. by a man driving a Chevrolet van, Trooper Billy Wayne Elder said.

Archbell was taken to Coastal Carolina Hospital by local EMS, Elder said. No information on his injuries was available.

The man, a 39-year-old Hardeeville resident, was arrested and charged with driving without a driver's license, following too closely, and having faulty equipment on a motor vehicle, Elder said.
